BANK VIEW CAFE GRADE 2
9 March 2025 10:00 am - 3:30 pm
Depot Bakery, Coach House, Coach House, Hillsborough Park, Sheffield S6 4HD, UK
Bank View Cafe (Grade 2)
Starts: 10.00 Depot Bakery, Hillsborough Park
Leader: Gareth Dent 07792 899501
Sorry for the late notice, but I have tweaked my route for tomorrow's ride (Sunday 9 March). This is due to Sugworth Road remaining closed and CTC insurance not covering ride leaders who ignore road closures. The tweak makes the ride slightly shorter. There's less climbing, but it remains a Grade 2 ride. The start details reman unchanged.
Depot Cafe Hillsborough Park 9.30am for coffee, 10am prompt start. Towards the shorter end of the Grade 2 rides, this route nevertheless packs in a few punchy climbs. From the cafe, we head towards Wortley and then up to Green Moor before descending to the cafe. The route back follows Mortimer Road, climbing Ewden Bank the easy (easier?) way before dropping down to Low Bradfield and somewhat inevitably climbing up to its higher neighbour. From there it is a straightforward descent back to Hillsborough Park.
The last edition of this ride saw riders exercising their creativity on the route back. This is absolutely fine as long as everyone is with a small group.

Monyash (Grade 3)
Starts: 9.30 Millhouses Park Cafe
Leader: David Bishop 07792741216
Lighter evenings, so it’s time to up the mileage. And while we’re at it let’s increase the climbing. Up over the moors and down to Darley Bridge for the long climb through Winster and Elton to Parsley Hay. After the cafe stop in Monyash we head for Ashford-in-the-Water and over Longstone Edge to take in the magnificent view. The drop through Eyam leads to the final climb from Grindleford up along Padley Gorge to Fox House and the descent home. It’s a very scenic route and, although we won’t be racing, please be aware that this is quite a challenging ride because of the climbing. It’s 30 miles to the cafe stop, so you’ll need to bring a snack.

Depot Bakery, The Coachouse, Hillsborough Park
Cannon Hall (Grade 2)
Starts: 9.45 Depot Bakery, Coach House, H'bo park
Leader: Ang Walker 07702 034467
Meet at Depot, Hillsborough Park Cafe, for a 9.45am departure (to avoid clash with Junior Parkrun). We'll head out up the steep hill to Fox Lane and on to Grenoside and Wortley. At Wortley we will turn off towards Hood Green and take the quiet lanes to Silkstone - care needs to be taken on the descents as some of these lanes are badly surfaced and potholey - before dropping down to Cannon Hall Farm for Lunch (https://www.cannonhallfarm.co.uk/things-to-do/the-white-bull/). After lunch we'll climb back up the hill and across to Ingbirchworth Reservoir then drop back down to Millhouse Green to pick up the TPT. Just before the Thurgoland tunnel we'll turn off the TPT on to Old Mill Laneback to Wortley Forge. At Wortley we have a choice of taking the alternative traffic-free trail through Wharncliffe Woods to Oughtibridge or carrying on along the road to Deepcar and Bitholmes. (GPX file is road route). The lunch stop is less than half way around the route but as we have a flatter route back, the return leg should theoretically be easier. Bring a spare snack if you think you might get hungry after our early lunch!
