Sheffield District CTC is to introduce half day easy paced rides on Saturday mornings starting this Spring.
Starting at 09:00 am from various locations on the edge of the city, the routes will lead cyclists out into the open countryside using quiet lanes, stopping for a café stop before returning back to the start point for lunchtime.
The overall distance for each ride should average around twenty miles, with regular regrouping, and breather breaks, an ideal ‘next step move’ for anyone who has only ever cycled within their own locality. Non-members are especially encouraged to join us.
The first ride starts from Millhouses Park Café on 09:00 am on Saturday 8th March and will use quiet country lanes to get to Brimmington before riding down the side of the Chesterfield canal to our café stop beside the canal.
Rides will be held every second Saturday throughout the Spring, Summer and Autumn.
Don’t expect a totally flat ride, but don’t expect to be left behind either.
More challenging Sunday rides are also arranged. Check the rides list for more information.
Saturday Half day easy rides for March
March 8th 09:00 Meet Millhouses Park Cafe for Chesterfield Canal. 20 miles Leader Barry Raynor
March 22nd 09:00 Meet Endcliffe Park Cafe for Hathersage 20 miles Leader Eric Cocker
Hello,
Do we need to book a place on these rides? Also, are children allowed?
Thank you, Sara
Hi Sara,
No you do not need to book, but a telephone call to the ride leader a couple of days before the ride may be helpful, especially if you have not been on a CTC ride before.
Our club rules state that children are welcome on our rides, but must be accompanied by an adult if under fourteen years of age.
Please get in touch if you need to anything further
Kind Regards
Barry
Thank you Barry.
Oh sorry, I have another question! Are these rides suitable for road bike tyres?
Sara
The rides are especially suited to road bike tyres, the majority of the routes will be on roads. Any trails used will be well surfaced and easily managed by narrow treads.
Barry
Barry, which is recommended for this ride-mountain bike or road bike?
Thanks
Hi Josephine,
If I were to make a recommendation, I would say road bike, 90 pc of the ride will be on roads. However you could manage the ride on a mountain bike if you needed to. BTW, the weather forecast for this ride is vary favourable
Barry
A very enjoyable cycle today, with a very friendly group of people. Thanks to Barry & Eric.
Thanks Josie,
Don’t forget to tell your friends, the more the merrier
Hi
The original idea behind the Saturday Easy rides was to hold them March to October and suspend them through winter.
It was suggested on the Saturday Easy ride yesterday that we should continue these rides through winter as they have proved to become popular, what do you think?
